On Saturday night, January 21, officers with the Randolph Co. Sheriff’s department stopped to assist a truck on LaFayette Highway with a flat tire on the dolly it was pulling.

The officer noted that a tandem axle trailer at Hope Whaley’s trailer lot was missing a tire and asked if they’d gotten the replacement tire off of one of Whaley’s trailers.

One of the suspects said he had never seen the tire before and did not know where it came from. He said they were helping move the truck for someone else.

Lug nuts were on the ground on Whaley’s property where tire had been removed. Whaley was asked to come to the scene, and it was determined a trailer was also missing from his lot.

Charged are James L. Sprayberry, 53, of LaGrange, Ga., and Darryl Keith Pike, 49, of Franklin, Ga., both with third-degree theft of property and trespassing. Other arrests may be pending.
