Franklin Shines with the Heard County High School Class of 2020

Individual Heard High Class of 2020 Signs will adorn the square in downtown Franklin throughout the month of May

(Franklin/GA) — Franklin is already known as a caring and loving community but beginning last Thursday evening it truly shines brighter with the smiling faces of the Heard County Class of 2020.

Those who passed through downtown in the month of May are sure to notice an unusually large number of smiling faces on the square, despite mandated social distancing.

Graduating seniors from Heard County High School were honored over the past week with signs displaying their name and senior photo for all to see, throughout the downtown area.

The idea started with a former Heard County graduate, Tanner Collins (Class of 2019) wanting to honor the 2020 students who would not be able to have a normal graduation.

Tanner works at Newnan Ink, a family-owned screen printing business on Temple Avenue in Newnan owned by his father Tommy Collins.

β€œIn a time when large gatherings are banned, Heard County citizens are seeking creative ways to say congrats to graduating seniors,” says Tanner’s mother, Angie McCullough. “With the financial support of teachers, coaches, clubs, parks and recreation, the Heard County School System and many in the community — with their donations — we were able to make it all possible.”

According to Angie, the family spent weeks getting all the photos and signs printed. Then their family placed each sign on the square last Thursday evening.

The Heard County Class of 2020 will be on display for the whole community to see throughout the month of May — then each senior will be allowed to come pick their sign up to keep.

“A big thank you to every sponsor and to Commission Chairman Lee Boone for allowing the signs to be placed on the square,” Angie added.

The signs are a good way of showing the seniors that this time is still about them.
