(Mt. Zion, GA) – Head coach Kathy Scott and the middle school girls basketball team defeated the Bremen Blue Devils 44-31 in the West Georgia Small School Division Championship semi-finals Friday at Mt. Zion middle school.
As a result the Lady Braves now advance to the championship game Saturday morning versus the rival Bowdon Red Devils. The Braves have defeated the Red Devils twice this season winning a close 31-29 contest in Bowdon and winning more handily at home 39-25.
In Friday’s game, a rematch from last year’s championship with the Blue Devils, the Lady Braves took advantage of a huge size advantage to overwhelm the Blue Devils on the boards, especially in the second half.
The Braves held a nine point advantage at halftime 21-12 with Kimberly Harris scoring five points.
In the second half it was the Hannahs that took over. Hannah Sanders scored 10 in the second half alone and tallied 14 for the game to lead all scorers.
Hannah Stephens was also crucial with eight points including two offensive put backs that sent the game out of reach late.
Alyssa Cosper and Sage Kelly each scored six while Ally Harris finished with four.
Tip-off for Saturday morning’s championship game is scheduled for 10:00 am back at Mt. Zion.
