Each year, employees at Plant Wansley raise money for local charities and organizations through The Georgia Power Foundation. The contributions are then matched by the Foundation and donated to charities chosen by the employees.

Over the course of the last year, Enola Taylor, Mal Milam and other Wansley employees have worked raising the funds they’d earmarked early on for Heard County Community Partnership, Inc.

This year, they were able to present $2,500 to HCCP, a local 501c3 organization that administers grant funds for the Heard County Food Pantry and it’s ‘Backpack’ hunger abatement program.

HCCP provides the annual Back To School Bash and administers an attendance initiative grant called Heard Educational Rewards of Excellence (HEROEs) in Heard County schools.

Funding for this grant comes from the Community Foundation of West Georgia and a portion of the Georgia Power donations will be used to supplement this program which continues to show promising results in improving student’s attendance and behavior in Heard schools.

Kathy Knowles, director of HCCP, said, “We’re grateful for the contributions Georgia Power employees make to our community through donations, volunteering, and assistance. These funds will impact our students and families in a very positive way! We always encourage donors to place their funds locally as Georgia Power has done so that they can see their dollars make a difference. ”
