GHSA Class AA State Playoff Preview: Braves @ Fannin Co.

AT STAKE: The winner will advance to the quarterfinals of the GHSA Class AA State Playoffs and face the winner between Fitzgerald (No. 1 seed Region 1-AA) and Northeast (No. 2 seed Region 3-AA). The Braves would travel to Fitzgerald or face a GHSA universal coin flip for home field versus Northeast.

LAST WEEK: The Braves defeated Union County 31-28, The Rebels defeated Pace Academy 28-21

SERIES: This is the first meeting between the Braves and Rebels

HISTORY: The Braves are looking to reach the State Quarterfinals for the 5th time in school history, The Rebels are looking to reach the State Quarterfinals for the 1st time in school history. The Rebels have only reached the second round once (1995) in the 44 year history of the program.

GHSA DAILY PREVIEW: *Heard County (7-4) at Fannin County (9-0): Heard County slumped to 4-7 last year after winning a state title in 2018, but the Braves are back in the second round after beating Union County 31-28. Maurice Fench was 14-of-16 passing for 330 yards and two touchdowns, and Ashton Bonner had 200 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns as well as seven tackles and an interception. No. 7 Fannin County, a region champion for the first time in 13 years, beat Pace Academy 28-21 last week for its first win in the playoffs since 1995. Luke Holloway passed for 171 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 187 yards and two scores, including the game-winner on a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter. Holloway has 1,766 yards passing and a team-high 752 yards rushing for the season.
