(Franklin) —  A new calendar year did not deter the momentum of the Lady Braves basketball team as they earned their 10th straight win of the season and more importantly a win in their first region game.

Kimberly Harris again had a huge game off the bench leading the team with 18 points while pulling down eight rebounds as the Lady Braves downed the rival Devilettes 53-39.

The junior appears to be hitting her stride after missing much of the season with a back injury.

Hannah Sanders and Jordan Watson also had big games inside on the glass with both hitting double digits in rebounds. Watson and Sanders also scored eight and six respectively.

Senior Madison Whitehead had another double-digit night scoring 13 with the biggest being a 3-point basket just before the end of the first half (see video below) to complete a 15-2 Lady Brave run in the second quarter. The game had been tied at 6-6 after the first quarter.

Coach Helen Akins was once again pleased with the effort of her squad.

“A big win in our first region game is just huge for our kids,” said Akins after the game. “Our rebounding and our defense have just been crucial for us over the last few games — controlling the boards and playing defense wins ballgames. Kimberly Harris was huge coming off the bench and scoring 18 for us tonight.”

Alanna Nunn had a monster game for the Devilettes with 24 points including six from outside the 3-point arc. Rylee Robinson had seven.

The Lady Braves will travel to Temple Friday night for another region game before returning home Saturday night to host Pacelli. Each game tips at 6:00 p.m.
