(Tallahassee, FL) — Former Heard County Lady Brave softball stand-out and Class of 2015 graduate Cali Harrod was named this week as the Preseason All-ACC Freshman of the Year by College Sports Madness, a college sports website covering numerous college sports across the nation.

Cali enrolled at Florida State University last summer and has already saw lots of action during the fall schedule although she is still uncertain how much playing time she will get once the regular season gets started in February.

She does report she is really enjoying her time at the university though as well as her time with her new team. “It’s really awesome here at Florida State,” says the 2015 GACA Class AA Player of the Year . “I am loving it so much.”

The Preseason Madness team also features some of Cali’s teammates with pitcher Jessica Burroughs, infielder Jessica Warren, and outfielder Morgan Klaevemann each being named to first team and infielder Ellie Cooper being selected for the second team.

The Seminoles are led by head coach Lonni Alameda. FSU has played in the NCAA postseason every year under Alameda, and is one of only nine schools to participate in the NCAA Tournament in every season since 2000.

Since Alameda has made Tallahassee her home, she has led the Seminoles to six ACC Championship game appearances in seven seasons, with titles in 2011, 2014 and 2015. She has been named the ACC Coach of the Year for the past three seasons.

The Seminoles reached the NCAA Super Regionals for the third consecutive season in 2015, finishing with a record of 49-14 and a No. 10 ranking in the final poll by the NFCA.

The team will kick off the regular season on February 12 with a weekend tournament in Miami, FL.

Cali’s new college squad will come close to Franklin on Wednesday night April 20 when they travel to Auburn for a doubleheader.

Cali will get to visit several new cities across the country during the season with games in Massachussetts, Pennsylvannia, North Carolina, and California. The team also travels to historic South Bend, Indiana on April 2-3 to face Notre Dame.

Cali will be joined at FSU next season by another Lady Brave, catcher Anna Shelnutt.
