HCHS Cross Country finishes strong at home meet

(Franklin, GA) — Four Heard County High School distance runners earned Top 10 finishes during a home varsity cross country meet held last week at the Heard County Parks and Recreation facility on Thompson Road.

Leading the way for the girls was Senior Annie Bradley who scored a top finish at the meet among all female competitors. Bradley finished the 5000M race in 23:05:70 to best second place finisher Noelle Ledford from Mt. Zion.

Fellow senior Lady Brave Kimberly Loutzenheiser also had a strong finish at the second home meet of the season finishing with a time of 27:19:00 to bring home seventh place.

Junior Lily Barr finished in 18th place in the race that featured runners from six other area schools.

The Heard County boys team won the meet with a low total of 56 points after the top 10 finishes by sophomore Eli Lawson (5th place) and freshman Rowdie Epps (9th place). Lawson finished the race in 19:05:30 while Epps came in at 19:34:10.

Six additional Brave male competitors scored top 25 finishes including senior Bailey Scarborough (11th place), Tyler Brewer (15th place), and Caelan Hasty (16th place), Ethan Lawson (21st place), and Andrew King (22nd place).

Scarborough, King, Loutzenheiser, and Barr all set personal records at the meet. Lily Barr cut an excellent 4.5 minutes from her previous best.

“These kids have been killing it and getting PRs at almost every meet — so I could not be more proud,” says first year coach Ashley White.

Other members of the Brave and Lady Brave teams include Daniel Burgos, Noah Paul, Taylor Cheeves, David Paul Chandler, Waylon McKay, Beth Moreland , and Charley Moncus.

The Braves will host the Region 5-AA Cross Country Meet on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 10:00 AM at HCPR.

At region, runners from Heard County, Callaway, Temple, Haralson County, and Bremen will all vie for positions at the GHSA Class AA State Cross Country Meet which will take place November 6-7, 2020 at Carrollton High School.

The team competes in another regular season meet this Saturday at Central beginning at 9:00 AM.
