HCHS Mentoring Program receives donation

(Franklin, GA) — Oglethorpe Power Corp. recently presented a check for $1,000 to Heard County High School.

The donation will be used to fund Heard County High School’s existing Mentoring Program and the expansion of the program to include 6th-8th grade students.

The program is designed to improve the four-year graduation rate and decrease the dropout rate of all high school students.

“Heard County High School is committed to meeting the education needs of all our students and preparing them to meet the challenges of the future,” states J.J. Wahl, assistant principal and partnership coordinator, Heard County High School.

“Developing strong partnerships among families, businesses, and community groups will help us accomplish our goals.”

Oglethorpe Power’s presence in Heard County includes the company’s 30 percent ownership in the Hal B. Wansley coal-fired plant and 100 percent ownership in the Hawk Road and Chattahoochee natural gas-powered energy facilities.
