(Franklin, GA) — Members of the James Stewart Chapter, NSDAR, were invited to the First Baptist Church of Franklin on Sunday, January 20, 2019, to recognize and honor Jordan Cornelius.

Standing with his pastor and family, Jordan was awarded the 2019 DAR Good Citizen Pin.

The James Stewart Chapter was pleased to announce that Jordan Cornelius was selected as a DAR Good Citizen Award recipient by the Heard County High School Senior Class of 2019. Jordan is the son of Keith and Ginger Cornelius of Carrollton, Georgia.

The pin is awarded each year to a senior from Heard County. The pin is as unique and significant as the recipient. It is rimmed by 13 stars representing our original 13 colonies. A band of blue enamel identifies it with the society.

The qualities of good character that are dependability, service, leadership and patriotism are titles on the four books in the center suggesting school days. Circling the books is the Laurel Wreath of Honor, behind them is the torch of understanding.

The DAR Good Citizen Program has been an important award for the DAR since 1936 with its primary goal to recognize outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools, and communities.

The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must possess the following qualities: Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism.

Jordan’s peers, the students in the Heard County High School Class of 2019, selected him for this award. He is Band Captain, plays on the school’s tennis team, President of the National Honor Society, Senior Class President, and is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2019.

Chapter Chaplain and church member, Jane Barker, pinned Jordan in front of his congregation and Jordan received a standing ovation from his fellow church family.

Jordan, with his family and friends, will receive his Certificate of Award at the chapter’s February meeting.

We would like to again thank Ms. Becky Roberts, counselor at Heard County High School, for her continued support of this award program.
