(Franklin) — The boys track team at HCMS finished third in the 4th Annual Invitational Track meet held on March 7 at HCMS in Franklin.

The team scored 124 points following second place Carrollton Junior High (177 points) and first place Auburn Junior High (236 points).

“I am proud of our team as a whole. We lost quite a few kids to the high school last year and we felt like we would be rebuilding this year so I am proud of the way our team performed,” said coach Allen Sikes.

“We had numerous sixth and seventh graders compete against mostly eighth grade athletes. We have lots of work to do in preparation for our league championship on March 27.”

Leading the way for the Braves were first place medal winners Andrew Leak and Cody Sickman. Leak won first place in the Shot Put (10 pts) and Sickman brought home first in the Pole Vault (10 pts).

Other athletes who performed well included Will Posey who finished second in the Shot Put and fifth in the 100 Yard Hurdles. Austin Toney placed in two hurdling events including fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 300.

Seth Mason and Hollis Alsabrook finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 3200 Yard Run. Aundre Watkins finished fifth in the 100 Yard Dash and the High Jump.

Sam Brown scored a fifth place finish in the Shot Put while Zeke Lewis took sixth in the 400 Yard Dash.

James Newell grabbed third in the Pole Vault and Connor Nutt took sixth in the Long Jump. Tray Dunson and Patrick Cofield tied for sixth place in the High Jump.

Mack Smith finished fourth in the Discus Throw with J.D. Blakely scoring sixth. Smith’s finish in the strong field was his best ever and one of the highlights of the day.

Sikes is proud of the hard work put in by Smith over the last three years. “I am very proud of Mack. He is a very hard worker who has been focusing on the discus since sixth grade,” Sikes said. “It’s always great to see someone’s countless hours of practice paying off.”

In the relay events the combination of Dunson, Leak, Watkins, and Marty Talley took fourth in the 4 x 100 while the team of Ashton Bonner, Komari Clark, Zeke Lewis, and Tae Gray claimed fifth. In the 4 x 400 Relay Bonner, Talley, Gray, and Watkins finished in sixth.
