(Franklin) — It was not an easy victory by any means Thursday afternoon at Heard County Middle School, but the Braves pulled out a 22-12 win over a gritty Mt. Zion Eagle squad in the semi-finals of the West Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference playoffs.
The undefeated Braves (7-0) will now host the Bowdon Red Devils this Thursday at 5:00 p.m in the championship game. The Red Devils knocked off Villa Rica Thursday to advance to the finals.
The Braves season looked to be in jeopardy versus Mt. Zion in the fourth quarter after the Eagles kept the ball the entire third quarter and part of the fourth after trailing 14-6 at the half.

The Eagles scored to bring the game within two points at 14-12 but the Braves quickly answered on a 58-yard touchdown by Carlton White on their next drive.
Quarterback Emory Jones converted the two-point play to push the Braves into the 10 point lead which would be the final. It was White’s second TD of the game.
Kendaz Goode also continued his fine play with a first half touchdown and Andrew Leek also scored on a two-point conversion. Gage Cannon continued to make big hits on defense.
“I told our guys this Mt. Zion team would come to play today,” said head coach Allen Sikes after the game. “We will have to be ready for the Red Devils this week and play four strong quarters of football to get that big trophy.”
Players, cheerleaders, and fans donned pink clothing during Thursday’s game to honor cancer survivors. A special halftime ceremony was also held including the release of special pink balloons.
An extra-large crowd is expected for this Thursday’s game and fans are urged to arrive early for a good seat at the game.
