HCMS Cheerleaders rooted on the Braves in the 33-13 win over Villa Rica Thursday
(Villa Rica, GA) — The Heard County Middle School Braves traveled to Villa Rica Middle School Thursday afternoon to take on the Wildcats and walked away with a 33-13 win improving their perfect record to 4-0 on the season.
Carlton White added two more touchdowns to his big season stats including a 60-yard burst that put the Braves up early in the game. A two-point conversion by Andrew Leek gave the Braves an 8-0 advantage and they never looked back.
Villa Rica looked to be close to closing the gap just before halftime but a huge goal-line stand by the Braves defense kept the lead at 21-0 at the break. The Braves defense played well all day with solid efforts from Luis Vazquez and Gage Cannon.
The most exciting play of the day came in the second quarter when quarterback Emory Jones connected with Kendaz Goode on a 70-yard TD pass. Jones also scored on a 16-yard run. Christopher Goode had a 46-yard TD run in the third quarter.
“We played flat today but we did enough to get by — we have to come out more focused next week and ready to play ball,” said head coach Allen Sikes after the game.
The middle Braves will host eighth grade recognition day this Thursday when they host Temple at 5:00. Ceremonies will begin at 4:30.
Playoff semifinals will be on October 17 and the middle school championship game will be on October 24. Barring an upset in the final two games of the season, the Braves should host all playoff games.
