HCMS Lady Braves 7-0 After Extra Inning Comeback over Trojans

Lady Braves 8th Graders (L to R): Alexis Raines, Jordan Watson, Jesse Walker, Anna Shelnutt, Sarah Schofield, Kemaiya Brewer, and Johanna Beyer

The Heard County Middle School girls softball team bounced back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Carrollton Trojans 4-3 in extra innings Tuesday and extend their undefeated record to 7-0.

It was “Senior Day” and all seven of the 8th graders were presented framed photos as gifts before the game.

The Trojans had control early in the game and held a 2-0 lead until the Hannah Stephens scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Jordan Watson who also pitched the game for the Braves, stole third base and then scored on an errant throw to tie the game at 2-2.

Neither team scored in the 6th, so the game moved to an extra inning international tie-breaker. Under the rules of this tie-breaker each team begins the inning with a runner already at second base.

After both teams scored runs in the 7th inning, the Braves were able to hold the Trojans scoreless in the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the inning, Jordan Watson drove in Hannah Stephens to win the game 4-3.

The girls have been on fire the last two weeks with huge wins over Mt. Zion 8-6, Villa Rica 15-2, and Temple 18-5.

Several girls led the way offensively during these big wins including Ally Harris, Alyssa Cosper, Sara Schofield, Aspen Barker, Jesse Walker, Johanna Beyer, Anna Shelnutt, Alexis Raines, Hannah Sanders, Jordan Watson, and Hannah Stephens.

The girls will travel to Bay Springs 10/12 and to Bowdon 10/13 to close the regular season. Both games will begin at 4:30. See below for exclusive footage of today’s game winning hit by Jordan Watson that scored Hannah Stephens.
