HCMS Lady Braves Start Season 3-0

(Franklin,Ga)– After opening the season last week with a win over Haralson County, the middle school softball team continued their winning ways this week with two more wins over Central-Carrollton on Monday and Bremen on Tuesday.

In Monday’s game versus the Lions, the girls were able to scratch out a 3-2 win despite having only three hits including one each by Alexis Raines, Hannah Stephens, and Jordan Watson.

A couple of errors and hit batsmen by Central allowed the girls to manufacture the three runs though and it would be enough thanks to the strong pitching performance by Jordan Watson. Jordan had 12 strike-outs in the six inning game.

The defensive highlight of the day was an amazing diving catch of a short pop-up behind the plate by Anna Shelnutt.

In Tuesday’s affair, the girls moved to 3-0 in league play with a 6-0 shut-out of the Blue Devils. Watson was again strong on the mound with 10 strike-outs and strong defensive play.

Other girls who played well on defense were Anna Shelnutt, Hannah Stephens, and Alexis Raines.

Offensively, Shelnutt led the way with three hits including an inside-the-park home run.

Raines and Alyssa Cosper each added two key hits in the solid win by the Lady Braves.

The girls will be back in action on the road next week with games Monday at Villa Rica and Tuesday at Temple. Both games will get started at 4:30 p.m.
