The 2020 essay topic was the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Massacre.

The Boston Massacre is considered to be a pivotal event that paved the way to the American Revolution.

Rylee’s essay was written as an eye-witness to the events of that day and the impact it had on her family and the American colonists.

The NSDAR sponsors the essay contest that is open to all grades 5 through 8 in both public, private, and home school programs each fall.

Rylee’s essay was judged by 2 retired educators and a non-DAR resident.

The James Stewart Chapter is very excited that Rylee was selected as the chapter winner and has forwarded her essay to the State for the next level of competition.

All the members are keeping their fingers crossed that Rylee could go all the way to National and possibly be representing our Heard County in Washington, D.C., next summer.
