(Lagrange, GA) — The Heard County Middle School wrestling squad coached by Thomas Sickman continued a strong season on Saturday when they traveled to Long Cane Middle School tournament in Lagrange and finished in second place.
The traditionally strong Cougar team finished in first place while Gardner Newman and Callaway finished third and fourth respectively.
The Braves have had one of the most successful seasons in the short history of the middle school program and head into this weekend’s conference finals as the #1 seed.
“The team is doing great this season as we head into the conference meet this weekend,” said head coach Sickman. “We have 10 eighth graders on the team, and this is the best we have done in a long time. I hope we can win our first conference trophy in the small school division.”
The team duals will take place on Friday followed up by the conference tournament on Saturday. Both events will be held in Carrollton.
The Braves garnered a total of 14 medals at Long Cane Saturday including 1st place medals going to Jakab Moon, Gage Cannon, Matt Nilsen, Will Posey, and Luis Vasquez.
