(Marietta, GA) — Heard County Special Olympics takes it a step further and competes state-wide at the Indoor State Winter Games in Marietta, GA !
This year, Heard County competed at all levels, elementary, middle and high school.
Heard County Middle School athletes represented as a bowling team coming in second place with each athlete receiving a silver medal. They defeated Clarke County and Gwinnett County.
Heard County winners are as follows: Nigel Echols, Vanessa Clearly, Davean Keeler and Faith Evans.
Also, Heard County High School athletes competed in the Southeast Powerlifting Competition. Although the competition was tough, our young men came prepared to win. Each athlete placed in their weight class and respective categories.
Winners were as follows: Anthony Brand – 2nd place in Squat, 2nd place in Bench Press, and 3rd place in Dead Lift; Damian Wiley – 2nd in Squat, 3rd place in Dead Lift, 4th in Bench Press and 3rd place Overall Winner in his weight class.
Anthony received three medals and Damian received four.
For Heard Elementary School athletes, this was their first time participating in a bowling team state competition.
Each member of the team received a large rosette ribbon for fifth place.
Winners were as follows: Kaylee Holcomb, Callie Robinson, Hayden Young and Jacob Mims.
The motto of Special Olympics states “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt”; therefore, we would like to shine a special light on all athletes who participated.
Also, a special thank you to parents and chaperones who supported and attended the event. We look forward to a great season next year!
