Heard County Courthouse renovations are expected to be completed during the summer of 2017

(Franklin) — The Heard County Board of Commissioners unanimously gave the go-ahead at Tuesday night’s regular meeting for two new construction projects scheduled to be completed from 2016-2017.

The first phase of the approved work will be the construction of a new administration building that will house most of the county offices. That portion of the project is scheduled to start and finish in 2016.

The new building will be located directly behind the current courthouse at the site of the former Heard County school system bus barn.

The second phase of the project will include a renovation to the existing courthouse structure. The courthouse will primarily house court services once the major interior remodel is finished.

The courthouse renovation is estimated to be complete by the summer of 2017.

The cost of the entire project, budgeted at $4.3 million dollars, will be paid for by S.P.L.O.S.T. funding.
