  1. Nice to see the overwhelming support for Sheriff Henry. We tried to tell you to save your time and money Mr. Spradlin. I think a lot of people are with me when I say that until Sheriff Henry wants to retire the job will always be his. 16 years in office should tell you that to begin with.

Its so easy to “speak your mind” behind an alias or a screen name on a computer.

Was Lee Boone involved in the process of setting the arena regulations? Yes he was. Was he involved in the board process for deciding what the public comments would be? Yes he was. Was he alone in making those decisions? No he was NOT. Complaints against him while he worked for GSP for 30 years? How about the commendations he got for a job well done that he retired from? Uncooperative? How much more uncooperative can one get than June Jackson and her nazi type ruling of the meetings where you cant speak unless you have her permission? Her vetoing a public meeting that her BOARD voted to have?

Lee Boone has never been under suspicion for misuse of county credit cards, misuse of power (having the county workers clear a downed tree off HER private property), and making decisions for the county based of personal vendettas.

So- would you rather have a person who has proven that they are dedicated to their job, willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done even if they face adversity and people complaining about the job they do well, in office? Or someone who has suspicions of possible criminal activity that holds a grudge? Your choice- but I’m voting for Lee.

  2. Also nice to see the support for Mr. Boone. I ask all of the Mr. Pike voters to please put your support behind Mr. Boone and please vote August 21! This is our chance to finally for sure have a badly needed change in office!

  3. I’d like to ask all Larry’s supporters to vote for June on August 21! It’s not the chair that needs replacing, it’s the the District Commissioners that need to step aside!

  4. Does anybody know why June jumped from the Democrat side to Republican side this election year? Just curious.

    • I think she was afraid of going against Massa everybody that wants changes is behind him and he is the only one in the bunch that can be fair and he listens to everybody which is real important. I wonder what would have happened if June had run against him Democrat. It seems like most of the other candidates don’t even know what the parties mean but Massa ain’t shy about bein honest and saying he is not really a Democrat. It might be hard for him to win his first time around but it would not be too surprising if he won it by a lanslide.

  5. I agree with everything you stated JC, couldn’t have said it better myself! We DID try to tell them to spend all the money it cost them to run on a nice vacation instead..they can’t say we didn’t try to warn them:) I think the majority of the county would agree that our sheriff will be Ross until he retires! At which time I hope either Deputy Cain Dean or “Chief” (Kevin Hannah) will be ready to give it a go…pretty sure either of the 2 would have Ross’s full support if/when they do and they’d most definately have my full support and any help I can be with campaigning too!
And in my opinion, which I know doesn’t count for anything but….it seems a bit rediculous that a runoff is even needed when Lee Boone had nearly twice as many votes as his closest competition, but that alright..I suspect come Aug. 21 he’ll only widen that gap between the # of votes cast for him vs. June.

    • Do any of you Boone supporters actually know what he stands for, what motivates him? If you People don’t know the definition of Sheeple, I’d look in the mirror because Sheeple will follow each other right into the mouth of the wolves every time!

    • MamaGrizzly says:

Well said Kelli! Kevin or Dean would be the perfect choice to succeed Ross. The transition would be smooth I am sure. As for the Chair position I am hoping Boone takes it! He certainly has my vote. Oh and “Daddy” obviously you never had the pleasure of Mr. Boone visiting your home as he did many thru-out the community. He may not have all the answers you want but I feel sure he will make it a priority to find those answers and get this county back on track.

Funny thing I talked to a well liked respectable Sheriff’s candidate from a neighboring county who stated that as a Heard County resident we were blessed with a wonderful sheriff but some of our commissioners left a lot to be desired.

  6. I agree with jc. We are indeed in need of a change in this county! Big time. District commissioners and all. Boone has my vote!

  7. robert montgomery says:

I think Sheriff Ross Henry should BE PUSHED to run for GOVERNOR next time! We need to share HIM with the rest of the state. red

  8. Concerned citizen says:

Heard county is in need of change big time. First off is getting a new sheriff , either Doyle Scott or Guy Spradlin would of been a better choice. After 16 years in the same job you seem to overlook what is happening in your county that is until it’s election year. Then we need Russ in as chairman.

    • Are you a registered voter? If not you need to be. You can say all you want, but until you go out and vote you will not officially be heard. I hope all of you that are commenting on elections are registered voters that actually go out and vote!

  9. Concerned citizen says:

I am registered and I did vote on July 31st!

  10. I agree JC. Anyone who isn’t registered or even the 60% of the county who are registered and just didn’t bother to go vote have no right to complain for sure. I did vote and am not at all ashamed to say my vote went to Ross Henry and Lee Boone. I will vote the same way Aug. 21 in the run-off and again in the Nov. primary. I anticipate the majority of the county will do the same:)

  11. gerrald meacham says:

god bless america, im saying it quietly, afraid i might offend some one if i say it out loud .

  12. Bcarefullwhatuwish4 says:

It is amazing how many people in Heard County have been blinded by horse manure from Lee Boone. Have any of you actually listened to the man? He has a different spin on every issue depending on who he is talking to. He is opposed to how the covered arena operates, yet he was the chairman of the committee that developed the rules! He is opposed to the public comments rule, yet he was on the board that instituted the current public comment rules! Please people take a serious look at what he tells you and then look at his past voting record. This is all available in open records. What are his qualifications to run this county? The Commission Chair in Heard County serves very similar to a county manager. What experience does he have, he worked as a trooper for 30 years and was never promoted. Contact the Georgia State Patrol and see how many complaints he has had against him. Check his past lack of cooperation with other agencies. Exactly what type of education does he have? As a district commissioner he never once attended any training in order to do the job! If this man is elected as commission chair the county will be broke due to the lawsuits he will put us in. Finally if you TALK to the county employees, the ones who actually do the work, ask how they feel he will run the county. I have heard people say that they want a CHANGE! Well Lee has been on the board for 12 years, check his voting record, why did he not do anything for change then! Also be careful about change, if you remember, Obama promised us change too! June Jackson may not be a perfect candidate and has her flaws, but overall the county has been in good shape under her leadership. I would sincerely hope that anyone who cares about the future of Heard County would vote against Lee Boone.

    • SunkistNGa says:

You make a great point!…Vote for Russ Massa!!! Larry, Boone and June have all been there already and it is time for a change! As far as experience, Russ will be able to have the training opportunities like June has had, she didn’t hold a district comm. position first either. I personally would like for all of them to share with the county their work experience and ethics history. As far as Boone not cooperating with other agencies, I read the minutes in the paper from the meetings and can see blatant non-cooperation with the other board members except when they have their secret consults to vote against one in particular. Talk about non-cooperation, this affects this county and me, I could care less who he has cooperated with on his job. I don’t know of a single one of these who holds their office in conjunction with their job! Isn’t it funny, how all of the sudden you can find things out in public record that were never brought to light before during an election. Where was all this info. while he was in office? I guess you don’t come to a mudslinging without a fistful of dirt,Huh?

  13. FreedomToVote says:

I’ve held my thoughts as long as I can, and time is getting short to express my opinion and maybe wake some people up from the tainted KoolAid induced coma they seem to be in.

June Jackson has to go. She was a good chairperson when she began her term. She showed compassion, caring for the people of the county, but as time went by, she began to become influenced by others that made her doubt her abilities to lead and she allowed others to lead HER. We don’t need that anymore. Sit in on the meetings and watch. She’s forgotten she’s a LEADER, she’s become a follower of people that have their own personal agendas and vendettas. Obviously bullying never stopped at the doors of the middle and high school, it continued on and found it’s way into our current government.

Lee Boone but has shown me over the years to be a man of integrity. He will listen to someone that has an opinion and consider all the options. I can’t totally speak for Lee, all I can give is my observation and experience, the same I used to describe June. Lee might already have a preconceived opinion of his own on an issue, but, he will allow a person to express an opposing opinion without prejudice against that person, listen and think about all of the input and opinions of others and he uses those opinions to make an informed decision on the issues. I’ve watched him in meetings and saw that type of action on more than one occasion. Also, I have never once heard him tell anyone “That’s enough! Sit down”

Becarefulwhatyouwish4, you talk about complaints against Lee in an attempt to discredit him. Well, if that is true, and I had just been busted by a Georgia State Trooper for speeding or reckless driving, and I was the kind of person to disrespect and throw an attitude at an officer for stopping me, I’d probably be one of the ones that would file a complaint against that trooper because, of course, I didn’t deserve that ticket and filing a complaint is about the only way I have of rebelling. I’m thinking there were no complaints filed against Lee when he was working in the service of guarding and escorting the Governor of Georgia and I would think that to be selected for that honor, one would have to be of the highest level of their field of Public Safety.

Then we have Russ Massa. I don’t know Russ personally but from visiting the “blog” which is basically what The Heard Citizen, as well as the Franklin News Break appears to be to me since there is no objectivity in anything they publish which is one of the basics or journalistic integrity, I believe that Russ is going into the deep end of the pool with no idea how to swim and surely no floaties on his arms. He’s going to find he’s swimming with sharks and they are going to eat him alive. This current board is so full of people that have personal vendettas and agendas, or are totally clueless, they will use Russ like a door mat. He surely can’t expect them to help him learn how to be a County Commission Chair. Anyone that wants to vote for Russ to lead this county needs to think about what that job entails. I means communicating with the heads of this state, face to face, as a representative of what Heard County is and hopefully be able to interact with people on the state level that are going to help this county progress. Russ may be a nice person, I only see what I see, and nice goes a long way in showing compassion and caring for people you are trying to help but unless you are sophisticated enough to stand beside the Governor of Georgia and talk about issues other than football and cheer leading, you need to rethink your direction. To the people that are thinking of voting for Russ because he’s a “nice guy” and you are tired of politics as usual, you’ll get just that, a nice guy with no sense of how to deal with the policies and protocols of being a County Commission Chair. If that’s what we end up with, where will we be then? Scary to think about.

Now it’s time to vote in the run off. Thank God, we have the right to go to the polls and voice our opinion by casting our vote. I personally pray that people will make the right choice and pick a person to lead this county forward, not back into the dark ages, and not with a vendetta against the hard working people and voting people that put June in her position. I honestly wish the position of Commission Chair didn’t come with the ability to turn people into someone so power hungry that they forget where they came from and for certain it doesn’t come with a ten page set of instructions to learn from.

Personally, and I know by now, no one cares what I personally plan to do, but I plan to pick the candidate that I believe will work hard to make this a county we can be proud of, can meet with the heads of this state and speak on their level because he’s been there. He has the experience, he has my vote. Lee Boone.

God Bless the USA and us all.

apologies for grammatical errors but if you are smart enough to read my letter, you should be smart enough to look over them.

    Thanks

  15. If all the same people voted the same way for June and Lee and all you had left was the 499 people that voted for Larry June would need about 87% of the Pike votors to come to her side to win! With numbers like that the reality is June does not have much of a chance. All she did by switching to the Republican side is cost the county money by having to have a run-off. With all that being said do not just assume that Lee is going to win and not vote. That is the only chance June would have to win. So be sure to vote on the 21st!

    • Cynthia Keel says:

Yes, by all means get out and vote on August 21st, for honesty, integrity, professionalism and the knowledge and experience to continue to do the job that is required as Heard County Commission Chair. In the worst economy in decades, is it really smart to vote for someone who has never managed employees and budgets or rather to vote for someone who has proven they can do the job? VOTE FOR JUNE JACKSON!
