The Heard County Chamber of Commerce held their 47th Annual dinner on Friday, January 18, 2013 in the Heard County Middle School Cafeteria. Noel Forrester welcomed everyone and thanked the large crowd for attending, followed by Rev. Grady Woodruff giving the invocation.
Plates On The Square of Carrollton, Georgia served a wonderful meal consisting of Pork Loin and Blackened Chicken, Country Style Green Beans, Broccoli-Cheddar Casserole, Wild Rice, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Rolls and choice of several fabulous desserts.
Forrester, Chairman of the Chamber Board for the past two years introduced Gail Long as the new Chamber Chair for 2013.
Long then announced the “Volunteer of the Year Award” to Connie Nelms for all her hard work in the community.
Next, Long awarded Tanner Health System as the “Business of the Year”, with CEO, Loy Howard and Dr. Cory Butzon, MD accepting the award.
Executive Director of the Chamber, Kathy Knowles, spoke on this year’s theme “From Zero to Sixty” referring to the 60 years that the Heard County Chamber of Commerce has been going strong in Heard County and the 24 people who saw a need for the organization and worked to get it started.
Knowles also thanked all the current board members for their many hours of volunteer service.
Board Members include: Gail Long – Incoming Chair, Kevin Hayes – Vice Chair, Noel Forrester – Immediate Past Chair, Keri Denney – Past Chair, Jimmy Adams, Kevin Hannah, Sandra Holtzclaw, James Kingston, Frances Oubre, Kathy Knowles – Executive Director, and Paula Crider – Admin. Assistant.
Knowles introduced Emmett Harrod, Chairman of the Development Authority Board of Directors. Mr. Harrod announced the 2012 Accomplishments: Opening of Plastic-Paint, Inc in February 2012, employing 40 Heard County Residents, Completion of Water Tank at Industrial Park in January 2012, purchased property to grow future Industrial Park, Assisted existing business in relocating and working jointly with three counties to bring broadband to Heard County.
He thanked all the 2012-2013 Development authority Board of Directors consisting of Morris Long – Vice-Chairman, Judy Miller – Secretary, Charles E. Stephens – Treasurer, Charles “Skip” Jones, Grady Woodruff, Mark Adams, Leighton Alston, and Julie Pope – Executive Director.
Entertainment was provided by Trenton Ewing, a 15-year-old country singer and his band. The young singer amazed the crowd with his music.
Tickets were drawn for the mountain of door prizes that were presented, and many went home with everything from gift certificates to a 42” flat screen TV.
