Heard County Christmas 2017: A Guide to Local Holiday Events

(Heard County, GA) — In keeping with the annual tradition this upcoming first weekend in December will feature a record number of Christmas celebrations in Heard County including community parades featuring the Marching Braves, holiday fundraisers, and several visits from jolly old Saint Nicholas himself.

In order to help our readers keep up with this festive itinerary of events, we have compiled the list below to make planning somewhat simpler.

Breakfast with Santa (December 2) — The Heard County 4-H program will host a very special ‘Breakfast with Santa’ event this Saturday morning, December 2 at the 4-H office (Old Recreation Dept. Gym) in Franklin. Tickets are $5 each but seats are limited. Check with the Heard County Extension Office for availability.

The Ephesus Parade and Bazaar (December 2) — The annual Ephesus Christmas Parade takes place on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM in the City of Ephesus. Immediately following the parade, Ephesus Elementary School will host its Christmas Bazaar featuring several local vendors.

Baby Brave Christmas Reunion (December 2) — The Baby Braves will be hosting their Christmas Reunion at 10:00 AM at Ephesus Elementary School on December 2 following the Ephesus Christmas Parade.

The Town of Centralhatchee Parade (December 2) — The annual Centralhatchee Christmas Parade will begin at 4:30 PM Saturday afternoon in downtown Centralhatchee. Following the parade, everyone is invited to view the lighting of the town Christmas Tree in Centralhatchee Park. Refreshments will be served under the pavilion by the First Baptist Church of Centralhatchee and Santa will be on hand to meet the kids.

Winter Fest in Franklin (December 8) — The annual Franklin Christmas Parade will take Friday evening, December 8 at 6:00 PM. Other activities on the square will kick off at 5:00 PM including music, food, drinks, games, arts & crafts, and pictures with Santa Claus. Admission is free but everyone is asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Heard County Sheriff’s Office annual toy drive. This year’s theme is “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

Christmas Musical (December 10) — Centralhatchee First Baptist Church will perform their Christmas musical ‘The Story of Christmas’ on Sunday, Dec. 10th at 6:00 PM. ‘The Story of Christmas’ has something for everyone and is packed full of high-energy celebration songs, warm heartfelt moments, seasonal favorites, and meaningful worship moments.

One Night in Bethlehem (December 15-17) — Hosted by Glenloch Baptist Church December 15-17 from 6:00-8:30 PM, “One Night in Bethlehem” is a live version of the town of Bethlehem during the time of Jesus’ birth. Pre-tour worship and information is provided in the new sanctuary , and groups are led by guides who are stationed throughout the town. Each guide tells about different aspects of the times and culture of Bethlehem. Guests will see Roman soldiers, lepers, metal workers, the innkeeper, and angels (among other Biblical characters), as well as live sheep, donkeys, horses, and goats. Post tour refreshments will be served. Led by a team of over 160 volunteers, ONIB hosts over 1000 guests annually. Free admission.
