Heard County High School Awards Night

(Franklin) — Heard County High School held their thirtieth annual awards night on May 6. Awards were presented by teacher Ed Brown, who has presided over the ceremony since its inception.

As always awards were presented to the top five achieving students in each grade. These are the students in each grade who have the highest grade point averages.

Awards for valedictorian, salutatorian, and the winners of several faculty and academic awards were also presented.

Among the biggest honors of the night included the award for valedictorian and salutatorian. Valedictorian went to Caitlin Hosey, while Salutatorian went to Shemeka Parks. The rest of the top five of the senior class included Jordan Callahan, Jasmine Jacobs, and Madison Barfield, respectively.

The Junior Class top five included Bradley Barber, Cassidy Cole, Luke Newman, Kiara Robinson, and Blake Tatom.

The top five highest ranked students in the sophomore class included Austin Barron, Riley Callahan, Jamie Conlan, Hannah Rogers, and Anna Shelnutt.

Finally, the top five highest ranked students in the freshman class included Trey Alford, Jillian Barnes, John Helton, Jessalyn Miller, and Trey Wiggins.

The faculty awards given out this year included Best All-around Female Student: Caitlin Hosey, Best All-around Male Student: Jace Mock, Best School Spirit: Christopher “Buck” Dunson and Alexus Higgins, Citizenship Award: Tate Gosdin, Herschel Dowdy Leadership Award: Shemeka Parks, Outstanding Male Athlete: Jonathon Hunt, Outstanding Female Athlete: Shemeka Parks, and Don Staples Award: Shawn Foster.

The Principal’s Award winners included Aaron Huddleston for Physical Education, Shemeka Parks in Mathematics and World Languages, Alexis Whitlock for English, Shawn Foster for Social Studies, Kayleigh Coker for Fine Arts, Jasmine Jacobs for Science, and Caitlin Hosey for Career and Technical.

The following students were recipients of a University of Georgia Certificate of Merit: Bradley Hollis Barber, Kiara Jhene’ Robinson, Cassidy Jade Cole, William Blake Tatom, Luke Matthew Newman, and Tyler Drew Harris.
