A number of goals were discussed that support this mission which included volunteers at the shelter, low cost spay/neuter and rabies clinics, adoption and fundraiser events, along with education in our schools regarding humane treatment of animals.

Founders are in the process of researching and filing for a 501(c)3 non-profit status. In the interim period, they are reaching out to other non-profit resources to use as an umbrella partner. April Butzon offered to assist with the 501(c)3 process.

Membership dues were also discussed and the group agreed to use the same membership fees offered by our peer, Carroll County Humane Society. Memberships vary from individual at twenty dollars per year, family dues are thirty, corporations or other social organizations are fifty, with students and seniors over 65 being ten dollars.

The first effort of the volunteers was to assist local animal control with their Rabies Clinic on Saturday, September 19th. Several people volunteered to help direct traffic and give general information.

The next meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6th at  Certus Bank. The plans are to register members, elect the slate of officers and announce appointed board members. The meeting is open to the general public.
