Heard County Parks & Recreation Wins Award

Wednesday, October 19th, Heard County Parks and Recreation hosted the 2011 4th District Awards Banquet. Several recreation professionals were on hand from Heard County, Mt. Zion, Carrollton, College Park, Hapeville, Spalding County, Troup County, East Point, Fayette County, and Clayton County.

Director David Julien and Commissioner Sandi Allen welcomed guests before they were treated to dinner. After dinner, door prizes were given as G.R.P.A. 4th District Commissioner Tod Nichols presented each award.

For the final award of the night, Heard County Parks and Recreation was recognized as the 2011 4th District, Class C, Athletic Agency of the Year.

Mr. Nichols stated that Heard County received this award for excellence with their athletic programs as well as being a great host to G.R.P.A. athletic events such as District and State Tournaments.

He also noted the rise in numbers of participants in each of Heard County’s programs and the number of teams earning an invitation to various state tournaments. He also commended Heard County on their non-sport programs such as summer camps and fishing clinics.

Lastly he spoke of the beautiful park that the staff operates and personally thanked David Julien and his staff for hosting such an enjoyable awards banquet. This is the first time Heard County has received such an award for their athletic and recreation programs.

  1. Way to go HCPR staff all of you do a great job down there and if I had an award to give, it would be for the patience that you show. Thank you for the camps that some citizen have for kids that can’t afford to participate in the regular season programs. My child participated in the basketball camp this past summer and learned a lot from the ladies that gave their time to do it, I am hoping to see this program again this summer. Just keep up the good work and be proud.
