Heard County Primary Runoff Election Results

(Franklin, GA) — Georgians including around 1000 Heard County voters went to the polls Tuesday to vote in the primary runoffs in advance of the Nov. 6 general elections.

In the nation’s most watched governor’s election, Secretary of State Brian Kemp won a sold victory over Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle to determine who will face Democrat Stacey Abrams this fall.

Kemp received 71.84% of the votes locally taking the race 717-281 in Heard.

The GOP runoff for lieutenant governor between state Sen. David Shafer and Geoff Duncan was a virtual tie. Once the secretary of state certifies the election, the runner-up will have five days to request a recount.

Brad Raffensperger defeated David Belle Isle to win the GOP secretary of state nomination. In Heard, Raffensperger received 68.25% of the votes.

In the only Democratic race on the ballot Sid Chapman had 31 Heard County votes to just 26 for Otha E. Thornton, Jr.

Thornton, however took the state race with 59% of the votes.

A number of other runoffs throughout Georgia were also on the July 24 ballot.
