Heard County reports 6th death and 200th case of COVID-19

(Franklin, GA) — According to reports from the Georgia Department of Public Health, a total of six people have now died in Heard County with COVID-19.

Although case numbers have been really low over the past few weeks, Heard County has now also reached its 200th confirmed case of the Coronavirus.

The first case in the county was confirmed on March 18 while the 100th case was reported on July 19. There have been 11 cases confirmed during the last two weeks.

Reports indicates the latest person to pass away with the virus was a female in her 70’s.

All six COVID-19 deaths reported in Heard County have been females.

Statewide Georgia added a total of 1,337 cases yesterday to bring the state total to 320,634 confirmed cases since the outbreak began.

A total of 45 new deaths were reported in Georgia Friday bringing that total to 7,106.

The COVID-19 numbers reported by the Heard County School system each week this fall have been very positive.

This week’s report released Friday by Superintendent Rodney Kay indicated zero confirmed current cases and only four students under quarantine for possible exposure.

It is important to note that reporting of both cases and deaths lag behind the actual time the positive test results occur and the deaths take place.
