In the past several years, the Heard County Sheriff’s office has collected monetary donations as well as clothing and toy donations to provide for the needy children of Heard County during Christmas.
The Heard County Department of Family & Children Services takes applications from local families and screens the requests. Parents/guardians are asked to list several toys their children are requesting and their clothing and shoe sizes.
This year there were 72 new bicycles purchased and 26 used bicycles that were donated.
The approved requests are sent to the Sheriff’s Office for “Santa Claus” to fill. This year over 400 children were provided with toys, bicycles and clothing. This is more than has ever been fulfilled in the history of the program.
Heard County Sheriff Ross Henry stated, “This year we had more needs and more requests than ever before, but we also received a record-breaking amount of donations for toys and money. It’s such a blessing to live and work in a community of such caring and giving individuals. This project would not be possible without the help of many individuals, churches and businesses. I would like to thank everyone, including county and city employees and trunk or treat participants, and all who helped make this project a huge success. Thank you for all the donations and contributions.”
