(Franklin) – Retired employees of Heard Elementary School gathered at the Franklin Community Center last Friday afternoon for a special retiree covered dish luncheon.

Lavonia Garrett organized the luncheon to provide a chance for the retirees to gather in fellowship and discuss old times. Thirty-five people attended the luncheon.

“We used to have a big get-together retirement covered dish dinner at the end of every school year with the current teachers, retired teachers, and board members but when the new administration took over after Mr. Lipham left they decided to do it differently. Since we hadn’t gotten together in a few years, we decided to do this luncheon for all retired employees of our school including teachers, assistant teachers, bus drivers, janitors, and all other employees. I think we sent out about 70+ invites,” said Garrett.

Garrett stated that she hopes this can become an annual event as she was very pleased with the turn-out. To see more photos from the gathering visit www.facebook.com/HeardCitizen.

Thank you so very much, Russ. I so wanted to be there, but circumstances didn’t allow that to happen. I am thrilled to have this picture to be able to see my friends. Patti Ridley

None of them has changed in looks from way back then. But us ‘their’ “children” that they reached and loved on and gave us guidance and just being there, sure has from a long time ago. As is growing older and such. I love all my old teachers. I hold them in high regard and with the utmost respect. Love you all.

I meant to add my year of Graduation, 1993!!!!!! Like any proud graduate does and so on and so forth. 😏. One story I have to tell about Mr. Mason Alford is of one my Dad Steve Jackson Toney told me long ago. I love that story. He told me him and some guy were fighting and such and Mr. Mason told them both to go put on some boxing gloves and have at it. Well they lost steam pretty quick and did not want to go in the boxing ring. I love that story. Bless Mr. Mason. While we are at it. Bless my Dad too. The other guy too. I wish I knew who he was. But all in all a great story. We were raised right. What we do beyond that is up to us. For real.
