HHS Chorus to sing National Anthem at Atlanta Braves game

The Heard County High School Chorus will be singing our National Anthem at the Atlanta Braves Game on Monday, August 13,2012!

The unique opportunity came about after one of the chorus parents, Diana Callahan (mother of Jordan Callahan) asked chorus director Nancy Heard if she could video the anthem by the chorus and submit it to the Braves.

According to Heard, the Braves are very picky about who they select to sing the anthem. In fact she stated that upon arrival at the stadium that day the students must perform a practice anthem prior to the actual game anthem and they could actually even be pulled if not up to Brave standards.

The chorus originally learned the anthem this past school year and performed it at several Heard County athletic events during the winter and spring including the highly attended home playoff games for the Lady Braves basketball team.

“This is going to be an exciting experience for all of us to be participating in something so big! It will be awesome to be able to show Turner Field our Braves pride!” ~Victoria Buker, HHS Senior

Nancy Heard, who recently retired will conduct the anthem that night and new chorus/band director John Greene will also be on hand as well. The chorus that night will include some of last year’s Seniors as well as some upcoming freshman.

Hopes are to make it Heard County Night at Turner Field as the chorus and parents/ supporters will all sit together in a special general admission section. Heard County High School has purchased 250 “cheap seats” so we can have lots of local support.

You can purchase your $6 seat from Nancy Heard or at the school office beginning July 18.

Wear your Heard County Maroon! Game time is 7:10 vs.  the San Diego Padres.

For more information contact Nancy Heard at 770-328-7232 or the front office of the high school at 706-675-3656.
