(Franklin, GA) — On Wednesday, April 13th, students participated in mock interviews at Heard County High School. This was the second phase of our Career Planning Event for seniors.

Also, Youth Ventures students and Work-based Learning students were invited to participate.

Over 60 students participated in the mock interviews with community and business leaders.

The interviewers included Thomas Miller of Available Realty, Kevin Hannah – Police Chief, Cindy Putzek from Community & Southern Bank, Ellen Nowicki of Regions Bank, Patty Jiles – Heard County Clerk/Human Resources Director, Dee Dee Williams, Gail Long and Leon Aaron from the Department of Labor, Andrew Ashworth from Loco Mex, Brenda Poole from the Troup County Commissioner’s Clerk & Holliday Realtors , Terry Harper of State Farm Insurance & Harper Realty, Mike Meredith of Youth Ventures, Keith Williams from the Troup County Parks & Recreation Department, Dan Boswell – Heard County Sheriff’s Office, Vickie Powell – Beck Facility Services, Jermaine Bradfield – Clockwork Performance Training Sports and Recreation,  and Wayne Ennis of Platinum Bodywerks.

These community and business leaders interviewed the students and gave them constructive feedback on their interviewing skills and the effectiveness of their resumes.

Students were required to dress in business attire, present their resume, and to participate as if it was a real interview. Many students commented that the experience was very beneficial and that they felt challenged by the interview questions.

Several high school teachers commented that the event was a great experience for students and the students reported that they were glad they participated.

The third phase of the event will take place on April 20th with a Job Fair held at the Heard High School Gym.

Employers from local and regional companies will be available to talk to graduating seniors about job opportunities. The first phase of the event was a Resume Writing Workshop conducted for students prior to the Mock Interview Event.

Representatives from the Department of Labor and Youth Ventures located in Lagrange were on hand to conduct the workshop and help students polish their resumes.

Ms. Wylene Spearman, Youth Ventures Coordinator, and Mrs. Angela Thompson, Work-based Learning Coordinator, organized the Mock Interview Event.

Any employers and businesses who would like to participate in the Job Fair on April 20th, please call 706-675-3656.
