Homecoming 2012 Preview

Heard County High School’s homecoming game will take place on October 19 and face off against the Jordan Red Jackets. The theme for this year is “Wave Your Flag,” and is taken from the song “Wave Your Flag,” by K’Naam that was used as part of the FIFA festivities.

As tradition has it, the homecoming queen and runner ups will be crowned during halftime of the game. The king will be crowned on Friday afternoon at the annual homecoming pep rally.

Homecoming court will consist of six senior females and six senior males. One female and one male will be chosen to serve as a homecoming representative from each grade as well.

The dress up days for homecoming week are slightly different from previous years. Monday is hillbilly day. Students are encouraged to wear boots, camouflage, denim, overalls, and anything else that portrays traditional country or redneck wear.

Tuesday is sports team day, which means that students should wear gear that supports their favorite team.

Tacky day will take place on Wednesday. On this day, raid your parents’ closets for the most atrocious outfit you can find. If it matches, you are doing it wrong.

Thursday will once again be nerd day after the huge success it was last year. Students should come dressed in traditional nerd wear that can include high wasted pants, glasses, suspenders, bow ties, and pocket protectors.

Friday is of course Braves spirit day. Seniors are assigned the color black, juniors should wear maroon, sophomores white, and freshman grey.

The homecoming parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 18. All homecoming float or car forms should be returned to the main office by October 8. The float that best represents the theme will win a prize.

Student Council Association has spent countless hours preparing this year’s homecoming festivities. SCA members and the Heard County High School varsity cheerleaders have teamed up and will “paint the town,” before the big homecoming game, which includes decorating local businesses’ windows with Heard County Braves décor.

“Homecoming is going to be such a fantastic, fun week. Student Council has put a lot of hard work into planning this week and we hope all the students participate,” stated SCA sponsor and English teacher Molly Grizzard.
