Hot-hitting HCMS Braves move to 7-1

(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Middle School baseball team continues to roll this season as they prepare for the stretch run of the regular season and the upcoming middle school playoffs.

Prior to spring break, the squad scored big wins over Temple, Villa Rica, Bowdon, and Mt. Zion to push their impressive regular season record to 7-1.

Several Brave players are having huge seasons offensively including Will Alford who leads the team in hitting with a .571 batting average. Alford has a double, two triples, 11 RBI’s, 17 runs scored and he leads the team in stolen bases with eight.

Tyler Lasseter and Blake Oldham are two other Braves that are at the .500 mark or above. Lasseter is hitting .545 with a triple 11 RBI’s and Oldham is hitting .500 with three doubles and 11 batted in.

John Paul Awbrey has provided some big power with his bat leading the team in doubles with six, RBI’s with 13 and he is hitting .478.

Other hitting leaders for the middle Braves include Gryson Cockrell (.391/5 doubles/12 RBI’s/16 runs/5 steals), Jacob “Juice” Miles(.417/7 steals), Jacob Watts (.348/4 steals), and Jonathan Echols (.348/5 steals).

On the mound, “Juice” Miles has been a workhorse leading the Brave staff with an outstanding ERA of 1.61 and 24 strikeouts in 17.1 innings.

Jacob Watts has also been superb while not allowing a single earned run in his seven innings of work. He started and got the win over Mt. Zion striking out seven and he has 15 strikeouts on the season while allowing just two hits and one walk.

Logan Addison has not allowed an earned run in four innings of relief work while giving up just three hits and striking out seven.

The Braves will look for a second straight championship as they battle in the West Georgia semifinals on April 16 while the title game will take place on April 18.
