Important road closure information for South River Road residents

(Franklin, GA) — The City of Franklin and Heard County Water Authority has been informed that the South River Road sewer project to complete necessary upgrades has now been rescheduled, after being postponed earlier this year.

The rescheduling of this project came after a large amount of unexpected rock was encountered, forcing the contractor to revise the original sewer line replacement plan.

The revised plan will involve a complete road closure from the 600 block of South River Road (west of the Heard County Water Authority Sewage Treatment Plant) to the 800 block of South River Road (east of Sioux River Drive).

The project will begin on Monday, September 23rd, immediately resulting in the complete road closure until Friday, October 25th.  Construction detour signage will be installed to assist motorist in navigating around the project area.

According to the project engineer with Carter & Slooppe, this is necessary since the revised plan will involve the sewer line being moved to the opposite side of the roadway, resulting in two section being completely removed.  The roadway will be reopened earlier if the project is completed ahead of the estimated time.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time. The updated plan for South River Road is as follows:

Monday, September 23, 2019 – Friday, October 25, 2019

Complete road closure with the possibility of reopening earlier, based on completion of project.

Location of Project

600 block of South River Road (west of the Heard County Water Authority Sewage Treatment Plant) to 800 block of South River Road (east of Sioux River Drive)
