(Franklin/Times~Journal) — Friday, April 22 was Earth Day, an annual celebration of the planet we live on and the environmental movement to protect it.

As the rain fell and replenished the earth, JAC Products in Franklin celebrated their first annual “Earth Day” with a community recycling event at their plant located on Mary Johnson Drive in Franklin.

JAC encouraged the community to drop off their recycling material and help keep the Earth “Green.”

The community was asked to recycle electronic material, aluminum & tin cans, cardboard, paper, newspapers, magazines, glass, various metal, plastic drink bottles and batteries.

Eric Evans, Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator for JAC said that JAC Products would be teaming up with Heard County High School’s wood shop and donating their old pallets that would be used for wood working in the classroom.

Normally, these pallets would be taken to the landfill. Evans stated, “We recycle all year but have decided to have an annual recycling day to encourage the community to recycle and get involved as well.”

Kathy Knowles, President of Heard County Chamber of Commerce suggested that maybe the event could be held next year at the covered arena and other businesses could get involved as well.
