The James Stewart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a ceremony honoring Mr. Corey Freeman as the DAR Good Citizen Award Winner for the Heard County High School Class of 2013. He is the son of Skip and Nicole Freeman of Franklin.
The DAR Good Citizens program is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their state boards of education. United States citizenship is not required.
The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the following qualities:
Dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality);
Service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others);
Leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and
Patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community, and nation) to an outstanding degree
The members of the senior class vote on the one student they feel epitomizes these qualities. Corey was selected for this honor by his fellow students of the class of 2013.
Corey is a very active senior at Heard High. While maintaining excellent grades, he plays varsity football and runs track, lettering in both sports all four years at Heard High. He is in the dual enrollment program with West Georgia Technical College taking classes at both the High School and the local college campus.
He will graduate from high school with only 1 semester remaining to complete the West Georgia Technical Welding Certification Program. He plans to complete this semester after graduation during the summer semester before attending college next fall.
