(Franklin) — The James Stewart Chapter welcomed new member Joyce McLain (Franklin, GA) on Saturday May 13, 2016.

She proved her ancestry through John Viers who lived in Amherst County, Virginia. He served as a Private Soldier under Captain Jesse Allen, Captain Holman Rice, Captain James Burton, and Colonel Francis Taylor and also guarded prisoners of war.

Chaplain Sharon Frost administered the membership oath. Regent Carla Brown welcomed Joyce into the DAR and presented her a DAR pin that can be worn proudly at all times.

Registrar Bonnie Baker presented her a chapter yearbook, a new member packet, and a copy of her approved application. Joyce’s daughter Amy Kent and granddaughter Kati Kent were present to see her inducted into the DAR.

The James Stewart is so pleased to welcome members and encourages anyone who wishes to know more about the DAR to contact us.

DAR members come from a variety of backgrounds and interests, but all share a common bond of having an ancestor who helped contribute to securing the independence of the United States of America.

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible to join.
