(Franklin) — In May, the members of the James Stewart Chapter NSDAR of Franklin held their last meeting of the 2014-2016 term in the community room of the Community & Southern Bank in Franklin.

The chapter welcomed new member Joyce McLain and her visitors, her daughter Amy Kent and her granddaughter Kati Kent: held its final business meeting: and  installed new officers for the 2016-2018 administration,  with Carla James Brown elected to a second term of office as Regent.

Regent Brown’s new slate of officers are Sharon Frost, Vice-Regent; Jane Barker, Chaplain; Mindy Runyan, Secretary; Beverly Baker, Treasurer; Bonnie Baker, Registrar; Marifaythe Whitley, Historian; Kayla Runyan, Librarian and Sharon Frost, Curator.

The members were delighted to have a special guest from the Fayette-Starr’s Mill Chapter in Fayetteville, Mrs. Rebecca Malone West.

Mrs. West has been in the DAR for 36 years, holding many jobs at the national, state, and chapter levels and is the Corresponding Secretary-elect for the Georgia State Society NSDAR. Mrs. West presided over the Installation of Officers. She delivered a poignant message to each of the new officers as they begin their responsibilities in the Brown Administration.

After the ceremony, Regent Brown presented each new officer a bag of goodies for new officers and a small floral bouquet. She presented Mrs. West with a basket floral arrangement and a donation card showing that a donation was made by the chapter to the KDS Scholarship Foundation in her honor.

Before adjourning the meeting, Regent Brown announced that the planning meeting for the 2016-2017 year will be on June 4th at 10 am at the Community & Southern Bank. She urged all members to come and help plan the coming year’s programs and events.

After the Installation of Offices, attendees enjoyed delightful treats and sherbet punch provided by Regent Brown and hostess Marifaythe Whitley. The tables were beautifully decorated with yellow tablecloths and yellow floral arrangements, which were later given as door prizes.
