(Franklin) — The Heard County Historical Center and Museum received a book donation recently.

The James Stewart Chapter, National Daughters of the American Revolution, in Franklin Georgia, donated ‘Cavaliers and Pioneers: Abstracts of Virginia Patents and Grants 1623-1666’ ,Volume 1, by Nell Marion Nugent.

This volume of Cavaliers and Pioneers contains outstanding records of early emigrants to Virginia from years 1623-1666.

There are thousands of records of land grants and patents stating number of acres, locations, and in some cases names of family members.

It also names ‘headrights’ which is a person who transported settlers into Virginia.

The book is an excellent addition to the museum’s historical research materials.

Museum Coordinator Selmah Bowen accepted the donation from chapter members Carla Brown and Beverly Baker.
