Jemeka Parks leads Lady Braves over Troup Tigers

The Lady Braves moved to 4-1 on the season Friday night with a 60-53 win versus a bigger Troup Tigers team.

Jemeka Parks was scorching hot early scoring 17 first half points and 21 total on the night. Reece Walker rebounded from a first half ankle injury to end the night with 17 points.

Despite an early 18 point advantage for the Braves, the Tigers continued to fight back and closed the lead to just two at 39-37 late in the third quarter but a three-point play by Walker extended the lead to 42-37 as the teams entered the fourth quarter.

An evenly played fourth resulted in the seven point win for Coach Williams and her squad. Other top scorers were Jasmine Cook with 8, Aaliyah Rutledge with 7, and Shemeka Parks with 5.

Shanya Brooks led the way for the Tigers with 18. In the boys game Coach Keith’s guys continued to struggle against the solid 3-A Tigers and were defeated 71-29.

The boys are now 0-5 on the young season. Levi Brown led the scoring with 8 and Damon Pearson added 6.

The teams travel to Fayetteville tonight to face the 4-A Starr’s Mill Panthers. The Lady Braves split two games with the Lady Panthers last season.
