JV and Middle School Football Teams Remain Undefeated

Thursdays have been good to the Brave Nation recently and this week was no exception with both the middle school and junior varsity football teams scoring big victories on the road.

The JV football team traveled to rival Callaway in a rematch from the Braves 40-30 win just last week at home.

The scoreboard wasn’t as active this week but the game was very close and exciting start to finish. Before halftime, the Braves lost QB Taylor Smith to an ankle injury.

He was taken to the hospital but current reports are that it is not broken and only severely sprained.

He was relieved by freshman Zach Stephens who played well and connected on a long touchdown pass to Damon Pearson. Pearson had two big touchdowns in the game.

With the game tied late in the fourth quarter at 20, the Braves had an opportunity to end the game, but were stopped short by the Cavs defense which sent the game to overtime.

After neither team was able to score in the first overtime, the Cavs got on the board in the second overtime. However, they were unsuccessful with the conversion attempt leaving an opening for the Braves.

It appeared the Braves might not take advantage, but were finally able to score a touchdown on 4th down from the 3-yard line to tie the game at 26 pending the conversion attempt.

The Braves went for two points and were successful on a keeper by Zack Stephens to run the JV record to 3-0 on the season.

Simultaneously in Villa Rica, the middle school Braves also ran their record to 3-0 with a third consecutive road win at Villa Rica.

Austin Barron continued his juggernaut statistical season by scoring two more long touchdowns one for 54 yards and the other for 56.

Another big story for this team has been the play of the defense. In two of the three games so far they have given up zero points.

The Braves wasted no time in the game today as Barron took the hand-off from QB Trey Alford on the first play from scrimmage 54 yards to the endzone and after Andrew Cannon ran it in for the 2-pt. conversion, the Braves quickly led 8-0.

The first defensive series was dominated by Jacob Bishop who got a big tackle in the backfield and then blocked the Wildcat punt to set up another Brave touchdown by Carlton White. Barron rushed in for the two-point conversion and the lead was 16-0 at the end of the first quarter.

There were several turnovers in the game including nice interceptions by Lashon Echols and Quay Daniel.

Andrew Cannon ran it in from three yards away to cap the scoring in the fourth quarter. The Braves had several other key plays from Jordan Woods, Connor Moon, and Cole Holiday.

The Braves got the shutout win over Villa Rica 28-0. They will return home next Wednesday at 5:00 to face Bay Springs middle school in their first home game of the regular season.

Also, as a bonus this Tuesday night they will play a 7th grade game versus Bremen at home.

The Lady Braves softball team continued their winning ways this week getting 8-0 wins over both Callaway and Manchester.

Jasmine Cook homered in the Callaway game. The girls will be competing this weekend in the Carrollton tournament at the East Carroll softball complex.
