JV Lady Braves split with Trojans

(Carrollton, GA) — The junior varsity Lady Braves softball team traveled to Carrollton Monday afternoon to take on the Lady Trojans and came home with a split in the doubleheader winning game one 16-5 and dropping game two 6-4.

Katelyn Jiles got another win on the hill tossing five innings in game one to remain undefeated.

Katlyn Henderson was the hot hitter for the day with a big triple that drove in three runs in game one and a double that drove in two runs in the nightcap. Henderson had an impressive five hits on the day.

Other top hitters in game one included catcher Brittany Graley with an RBI double, Anna Cosper with a 2-RBI double, and Harley Parker, Haley Bennett, and Brittany Scarborough who each had run producing singles.

For the Lady Trojans, Carlie Mansour hit a rare JV out of the park homer driving in three.

Haley Bennett pitched game two for the Lady Braves and pitched well despite a couple of poor defensive plays behind her. Anna Cosper was a key hitter in game two along with Henderson.

Game two featured an exciting finish as Katelyn Jiles bashed a line drive to center field that might have tied the game if not for a great catch by the Trojan center fielder.

Olivia Fannin got the win in the circle tossing a compete game for the Lady Trojans.

“We came out and jumped on them early in game one with a lot of good bats and our girls putting a lot of line drives in play and putting pressure on their defense,” said coach Ryan Duffey after the game.

“Our defense also played well behind Jiles who continues to pitch well for us. In game two Jiles got down 0-2 and really fought back and hit as well as you can, you have to give props to their center fielder for making a great play on it. Haley  Bennett pitched well despite a couple of errors that got her down early on.”

The split moves the Lady Braves to 7-1 on the season as they travel to Bowdon today to take on the Red Deviletes(5:30) in a rivalry game. They also travel to East Coweta next Wednesday, September 9 to battle the Indians (4:30) prior to the varsity game.
