(Athens, GA) — Freshman Georgia Bulldog offensive lineman Jake Edwards suffered a freak season ending injury during conditioning workouts this week in Athens.
Edwards suffered what appears to be a torn ACL and LCL during agility drills.
According to his parents, Jake and his family will be consulting with doctors and trainers Monday in order to prepare for upcoming surgery.
Edwards will take a medical redshirt this season meaning he could gain a sixth year of eligibility if he is injured again in the future.
Jake’s dad, Heard High School Assistant Principal Chris Edwards, spoke with HeardCitizen.com Wednesday evening. “We are disappointed but we know God has a plan,” Edwards said. “Thanks for everyone’s prayers and concerns for Jake.”
The injury appears to be of a freak nature as the durable Edwards never missed a snap during high school because of injury.
Jake graduated from Heard High School in May and is the first Brave lineman to sign a D-1 scholarship since Nick Wilkerson signed with Duke University in the early 90’s.
