(Bremen, GA) — The Lady Braves travel Saturday to Bremen High School for the very important Region 5-AA softball tournament which will determine the final seedings for the GHSA Class AA State Playoffs which begin next week.

The squad will be looking to regroup after a difficult 1-0 senior night loss to Bremen last Thursday at home.

The game not only cost the Lady Braves home field advantage for tomorrow’s tournament but also cost them head coach Matt Hornsby. Hornsby is suspended for two games per GHSA rules after being ejected from last week’s game for arguing balls and strikes.

Assistant softball and head baseball coach Trent Bianco will be in charge of the team as they battle for the Region 5-AA Championship.

Despite third place finishes at state the last two seasons, the Lady Braves have fallen short during the region championship game each year, dropping a 3-0 decision at home to Bremen last year and a 4-3 decision at Bowdon in 2012. The Lady Braves’ last Region win was in 2011.

Winning region this year may be more crucial than ever as a possible second round playoff match-up with the Gordon Lee from Chickamauga, GA. The Trojans are new to Class AA after moving up last season for Class A and are currently the top ranked team in the state in Class AA according to the AJC. The Lady Braves are ranked third.

The top seed in Region 5-AA will host Holy Innocents next Wednesday in a round one best-of-three series while the two seed will host Pace Academy.

The #3 seed will travel to the Lovett School and the #4 seed will head to Peachtree Corners to battle Region 6-AA Champ Wesleyan.

The Braves will take on Bowdon at noon on Saturday in Bremen. Bremen will face the #4 seed in the tournament Manchester at 2:00 p.m.

The winners of both games battle for the Region 5-AA title at 6:00 p.m. while the losers of those two games will play for third place in the region at 4:00 p.m.
