Lady Braves dominate region opening match

(Temple, GA) — The Lady Brave tennis team continued to shine Tuesday with a 4-1 Region 5-AA opening win at Temple.

The three senior singles players once again led the the way.

No. 1 Melissa Collins won her match 8-5 while Makayla Red and Laurel Roberts each won via an 8-0 shutout.

In girls’ doubles play, the No. 2 May-December tandem of senior Macie Taylor and freshman Juliann Carpenter scored a big 8-3 win.

The No. duo of Alexis Nelms and Katelyn Smith lost a close match by a final of 8-6.

In boys action, the Braves were defeated 4-1 by the Tigers, although the No. 1 doubles combo of sophomore Ryan Tatom and junior Duncan Googe remained undefeated for the season with an impressive 8-2 victory.

Scheduled matches at Mt. Zion for Thursday were postponed to a later date due to rain.

The Brave tennis teams under the direction of head coach Blake Alford will be back to region play next week when they host Callaway on Tuesday and Spencer on Wednesday at HHS.

Both matches will begin at 4:00 PM at HHS.

The squads will compete at the Granger Invitational next weekend in Lagrange.
