Lady Braves drop nail-biter at Callaway

(Lagrange, GA) — The Lady Braves (3-8, 0-0) dropped a close game to the Lady Cavaliers (5-1) in Lagrange Saturday afternoon by a final score of 38-37.

It was a tough loss as the visiting Lady Braves led 37-31 with just 1:42 to play in the game before the Lady Cavs stormed back to pull within one on a three-point play by Tavesha Johnson with 1:11 to play.

After one of several late turnovers by the Braves, a lay-up by Ladasia Bray put the Cavs on top for good at 38-37. The Lady Braves were unable to get any fouls against the Lady Cavs as time dwindled away.

The Lady Braves held an early 13-5 lead in the second quarter before a 20-6 run by the Lady Cavs turned the game around.

Jordan Watson led all scorers with 14 points while Madison Whitehead had 11 and Cali Harrod finished with six. Johnson led the Lady Cavs with 10 points.

Coach Akins and the Lady Braves now turn their attention to the very important Region 5-AA schedule which tips off Tuesday at Bowdon.

In boy’s action, a short-handed Braves team (2-8, 0-0) looking to build on last Tuesday’s 45-30 win over Spring Garden, AL at the Haralson Tourney, fell to an athletic Cavs squad 88-44 after trailing 57-20 at the half.

Coach Manning’s squad continues to deal with several injuries including freshman Emory Jones who missed his second game with a hand injury.

Christian Murray led the scoring for the Braves with 10 followed by Kendaz Goode with eight and Jordarius Foster with six.

The Braves also look to bounce back as they begin the Region 5-AA slate on Tuesday at Bowdon.

The Lady Braves will tip at 6:00 Tuesday in Bowdon followed by the boys. Both teams return home to HHS Friday for the Region 5-AA home opener versus Temple.
