Lady Braves drop opener at Central

(Carrollton, GA) — The new look Lady Braves softball team traveled to Central Tuesday afternoon to open the season versus the Central Lions.

The Lions won the game 7-1 behind a superb performance from pitcher Emily Williams who allowed just an unearned run and one base hit over seven innings. She struck out 16 Lady Braves.

The Lady Braves opened the season with a freshman battery of Katelyn Jiles on the mound and Brittany Graley behind the plate.

Matt Hornsby is coaching up a lot of new faces after the graduation of a large senior class including his former battery of four-year starters Jordan Watson and Anna Shelnutt who are moving on to Michigan State and Florida State respectively.

Hornsby thought Jiles had some bright moments on the mound in her first varsity outing.

“I thought Katelyn really settled down after giving up three runs in the first,” said Hornsby. “It was big that she was able to come back and throw four straight scoreless innings against a tough lineup to keep us in it.”
