Lady Braves extend winning streak to 6 games

(Columbus, GA) — The Lady Braves varsity basketball team extended their winning streak to six games Saturday night with a 38-12 road win over St. Anne-Pacelli.

Coach Akins’ squad relied on a stifling defense to take down the Lady Vikings.

The Lady Braves allowed no points in the third quarter and held a 36-6 lead heading into the final quarter.

Nine different Lady Braves scored as the younger girls saw lots of action for the second time this week.

Sage Kelley, Kimberly Harris, and Emily Iddins led the scoring with six points each. Hannah Sanders, Kemaiya Brewer, and Madison Whitehead each added four.

Coach Paul Fitz-Simons and the Braves varsity team lost a close one top the Vikings, falling 68-66.

The Braves battled back from a six point halftime deficit to take a lead lat before the Vikings pulled away with just over a minute to go in the game.

Jordarius Foster had a monster game for the Braves with 29 points, the highest for any Brave this season. Foster was an awesome 9-for-10 at the free throw line.

Christian Murray had eight points and senior Jordan Beard scored six.

The Braves and Lady Braves will travel to Wedowee, AL Monday night to take on Randolph County in the last games before Christmas breaks.

The Heard County junior varsity teams also saw action at home Saturday morning where they hosted Lagrange.

The JV girls got an impressive win over the Lady Grangers pulling away after the game was tied with under two minutes to go winning 39-34. Emily Iddins had another nice performance with 15 points including 7-of-9 at the free throw stripe.

The Lady Braves opened up the scoring in the second half after being held to just 12 in the first half.

Other leading scorers included Haley Bennett with nine, Alyssa Cosper with six, Alexus Crawford with five, and Anna Cosper with four.

Like the varsity boys, the JV boys also battled hard before falling to the Grangers in overtime. The Braves trailed 18-9 at the half before battling back to take a late lead in regulation.

The Grangers pulled away for the 40-32 overtime win. Alijah Huzzie led the Braves with 13 including four 3-point baskets and Tay Watkins had 12. Zack Hardin also scored on a nice 3-pointer.
