Lady Braves fall to Trojans on Senior Night

(Franklin, GA) — The Lady Braves celebrated their only two seniors, Anna Cosper and Brittany Scarborough, prior to Thursday night’s huge Region 5-AA home match-up with Lamar County.

Unfortunately, the festivities ended in a 10-5 loss after a big fifth inning outburst by the Trojans broke the game open.

After a solo HR by the Trojans gave Lamar an early 1-0 lead, Scarborough came through with an infield hit that turned into three runs as she scored all the way on a throwing error in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Braves clinged to that 3-1 lead until the eight run barrage by the Trojans in the fifth.

The girls battled back to score two in the bottom of the seventh which could be very important as the Lady Braves travel to Barnesville for a rematch with the Trojans.

Barring an upset of the Trojans by Temple Tuesday, the Lady Braves will need to defeat Lamar by five or more runs to secure the home field advantage for next Saturday’s Region 5-AA tournament.

If Temple does win, the Lady Braves would only need to win Wednesday’s game to host.

Junior Lora Glover had two hits in the game as the DP despite being under the weather all week with a severe case of the flu.

Sophomore Hannah Holden had a single, a double, and an RBI.

‘I was proud of the way the girls battled back late to get those two runs in the seventh — that could be very important for us next week,” said Coach Matt Hornsby after the game. “We played well today but we again just had that one bad inning that really hurt us.”

The Lady Braves travel to Barnesville Wednesday at 5:30 PM for the regular season finale before the Region 5-AA Tournament next Saturday in either Franklin or Barnesville.
