After dropping three of four games two weeks ago the Lady Braves softball team has bounced back in a big way winning seven straight games including a five game sweep this past weekend at the Carrollton High School “Trojan Slam” tournament.
The Lady Braves defeated five opponents all of which were from higher classifications.
Friday the girls defeated McIntosh (4-AAAAA) by a final of 7-2 and Alexander (5B-AAAA) by a score of 4-3 in extra innings. On Saturday the team defeated South Paulding (5-AAAAA) 8-6, Rockmart (4B-AAA) 12-2, and Paulding County (5-AAAAA) 5-3.
Highlights from the weekend included freshman Anna Shelnutt’s first career home run and a two-run walk-off home run by freshman Jordan Watson in the tournament finale win over Paulding.
The Lady Braves were rewarded for their efforts in this week’s polls as the AJC has them ranked at #2 in the state in AA while the coaches’ poll has then at #3.
The team returns to action today at Pike County (6:00) and tomorrow at Manchester (5:00).
